I’m Lissie, and I’m employed by Leeds University Union to run one of the biggest and best student radio stations in the country. Sammy James

Programme Controller

close

info:

Hi, I’m Sammy and I’m the Programme Controller this year. Sounds complicated, but basically I’m just responsible for deciding how our schedule looks each semester and then training all our lovely members how to put together amazing radio shows. Luckily I also have the help of the daytime, night-time and weekend producers and together we make up the programming team. If you have any questions about how to apply for your own show or you would like some feedback on your current show then do feel free to send me an email or a tweet

My job is to get everyone (EVERYONE) listening to LSR and to work with local sponsors to make sure we have the resources to keep doing what we do. BUSINESS. If you’d like to be involved, or if you know where to get helicopter banners printed, drop me an email and we’ll have a natter.

If you’re interested in entertainment or news, films or cooking, there’s a place for you on the daytime team, and I can guarantee you’ll have a lot of fun along the way! Jaguar Bingham

Evening Editor

close

info:

Yo I’m Jaguar, but you can call me Dangerous Jag. I’m the Evening Editor – so night-owls and specialist music lovers, I’ll be looking after these kinds of shows that occur after dark! I joined LSR last year (because of a Jaguar Skills mix which is the anthem to my life & I wanted to make that my jingle) & it was the best decision I ever made. I spent the summer interning at Radio 1 and 1Xtra and I am so excited to apply all that I’ve learnt into making the best shows and station in the universe! (well, the university universe). You can find me at your local pub doing shots of tequila, or in the LSR office (which also will include tequila, probably).

Alex Ewing

Head of Online

close

info:

Hey I’m Alex, and I’m in charge of our online presence here at LSR. One of my main roles this year is to try and take our presence to the next level and make us more visual. As a station we are trying to show you everything we are doing here at Leeds Student Radio. Make sure you stay tuned to our website, follow us on @thisislsr and like us on Facebook so you can see, watch and hear what we are up to!

Emma Rice

Head of Music

close

info:

Hello, I’m Emma. I’m a second year English Literature and History of Art student paying no mind to the likelihood of my future ‘f’unemployment thanks to the honour of being your Head of Music. I get all excited by most musical marvels and do not judge harshly, unless you like Screamo or Pixie Lott, then we cannot be friends. I listen to Bill Withers, The Black Keys, Brooklyn Soul Boys and Blondie so can’t easily categorise my taste. Last year I produced LSR’s ‘Leeds Live and Local’ show which opened my ears to the scene that our city has to offer. It is my mission to get as many of the music team along to gigs, conducting interviews and involved in live lounge sessions in our own studio. Come along to our music meetings if you want to listen to exciting new music, are partial to the odd Custard Cream, or simply struggle to find friends in real life. All of the love, Emma.

James Shakeshaft

Head of Music

close

info:

Hello, my name is James; graduate of Leeds College of Music and this year’s Head of Music. Discovering new and old music is really what gets my rusty motor running and I am open to anything. After writing and presenting my specialist music show Vinyl Revival for the past year on LSR (as well as being heavily involved with the music team) my transition to head of music feels organic. When I sit down to put on a record it could be anything from Woody Guthrie to The Fall, Black Sabbath to The Fugees, or the bone shaking guitar playing of Link Wray. However my love for music grows from the seeds planted by 1920′s blues artists such as Son House and Blind Willie McTell. This year Emma and I want to get as many of you to our music meetings to bring records to the table, get to gigs and compose and execute interviews and help out with live recordings in the LSR studio. If you have a love for music and a creative mind set, get involved. Kind regards, James.

Barnaby Towers

Head of Breakfast

close

info:

Hey there, my names Barnaby! I’m a second year New Media student, and also Head of Breakfast on Leeds Student Radio this year. This basically means that I’m in charge of what and who goes on The Breakfast Show; if you’re interested in getting on Breakfast (as either a presenter or a guest) I’m the person to talk to. I’m always happy to have a chat about anything, and can help you think up ideas and concepts for your own shows. I was a first year last year and know that it can be scary and intimidating, but please come and get to know us all at LSR. I also run the station’s flagship (yes!) film review show Box Office so if you like to talk about films feel free to ask me about coming on the show.

Sam Oliver

Head of The Beat

close

info:

Oh hey there! I’m Sam, the new Head of The Beat on LSR. You’re probably wondering what on earth ‘The Beat’ actually is, so I should probably tell you! It’s basically our equivalent of an early evening show (or Drivetime, as they call it in the radio biz) that runs Monday-Friday with a different theme for each day. Think Greg James on Radio 1, but less glamorous! Feel free to ask me questions and bother me via my email address, it’s thebeat@lsrfm.com. We’re always looking for new presenters and guests. Ciao!

Florence Hillard

Head of News

close

info:

Hiya I’m Florence, your joint head of news for this year. Joining the news team is a great way to get involved in student radio. Don’t worry, it’s not too daunting or too serious! We cover a wide range of topics on our two weekly news shows and really encourage you to bring your own focus, thoughts and passions to the stories your want to present. By being part of the news team you can be as involved as you want, from presenting our daily bulletins, to reporting stories and even getting involved in debates and conducting live interviews. Whatever your opinions we want you on our team, so get involved!

Gabriella Kountourides

Head of News

close

info:

Hi! I’m Gabriella, and I’m in my last year studying zoology. This year Florence and I are your heads of news. We will be working hard to make sure there is something for everyone in our shows, from serious and political, international and scientific, to light hearted university news. I look forward to meeting, and working with as many of you as possible! Do get in touch with ideas, whether you’re great at interviews, social media savvy or current affairs crazy, there will be a spot for you on our fabulous newsteam! Lets make this year count!

George Close

Head of Sport

close

info:

Hello! I’m George a 3rd year Zoology student and your head of sport for LSR! I joined LSR last year with zero experience and by the end of the year I was presenting LSR Sport’s flagship show Saturday Sport and my own show Small Talk Big Ideas. With my worrying addiction to society committees (LOTRSoc and ZooSoc), I’m now here to make sure LSR produces top sports shows covering everything from BUCS sport to International football. Feel free to come and talk to me if you have any ideas or questions, sport related or not! Also take a look at my website if you want to see what else I do http://georgehjclose.moonfruit.com/

Jonny McGuigan

Head Of Engineering

close

info:

Hello! I’m Jonny – one of the friendliest and happiest men on earth – which is a very grand claim, but is fully true…I promise! Anyhow, I’m Head of Engineering here at LSR, which means its my job to co-ordinate, operate, maintain and generally make the technology in the station work – to keep us on air 24 hours a day. I’ve been involved in radio since I was 13 and I have enjoyed every minute of it, from presenting to engineering – I’ve broken and tried to fix it all.. Nowadays, I tend to live in the LSR office, either breaking things and fixing them, or vice versa…even occasionally fixing things for other people / planning for outside broadcasts and the like! If you’d like to hear more about me, need something fixed, would like to organise an Outside Broadcast or want to ask me something technically challenging… or just generally fancy a chat, drop me a message, via any of the above!

Mo Ayoub

Production Co-Ordinator

close

info:

I’m a 20 year old radio keeno Liverpudlian-Arab who speaks Spanish and has a beard. Confused? So am I. I’m also the Production Co-Ordinator for this year at LSR meaning that most of the bangs, pops and whistles that you hear on air will have been made by yours truly (that’s alongside presenting shows and DJ’ing in the Old Bar/Terrace); funnily enough, despite knowing my way around the studio I do NOT carry that mid 90’s Napoleon dynamite pocket protector vibe. I guarantee that I’m going to be in the office for most of the year, so if you need help with making your own jingles, podcasting your show or just generally want to discuss current affairs or your favourite breakfast cereal (mine’s Coco Pops) then feel free to get in touch!

Oksana Bischin

Head Of Design

close

info:

Hi!I am Oksana, a second year fashion design student. Prior to my degree, I studied graphic arts and graphic design at college, and as a result (I guess) I take care of designing the visual material needed by Leeds Student Radio. My efforts will usually go into making sure that LSR stands out, and doesn’t go unnoticed! I am the point of contact for suggestions related to the visual appearance of Leeds Student Radio, and also the person you need to talk to if you want to create some designs for your show. For any suggestions and/or enquires drop me an email on design@lsrfm.com, or come and see me in the LSR office.
