Matt Tasker

Station Manager

close

info:

Hello! My name’s Matt and I’m this year’s Station Manager. This means that I’m the head honcho, the big cheese, the captain of the good ship LSR. I’m employed full-time by the union to make sure the station runs smoothly and to put the ideas of all the membership into practice. I do a lot of the boring behind-the-scenes stuff that stops us being taken off the air, but most importantly I’m here to ensure that all our members get the most of their time with LSR.If you’re thinking of getting involved with LSR then that’s great! There are a myriad of ways that you can get involved and I’m happy to guide anyone who isn’t sure where to start. I’m the one to get in touch with if you’re struggling with your show, with any of the equipment or if you want to work in radio but don’t know where to start. Pretty much anything really! Except babysitting. Never babysitting. I’m in the office most of the time sitting at my desk or tidying up after everybody. Feel free to come in and ask me a question or to just have a natter. Or you can drop me an email on manager@lsrfm.com, or send me a tweet. I look forward to making your acquaintance!

Amos Schonfield

Deputy Station Manager

info:

For reasons I haven’t quite worked out, you decided to click on my face. While you’re here, let me tell you about me. So I’m Amos, and this year I’m the Deputy Station Manager. My job is to support the rest of the committee to make Leeds Student Radio the best in the country. This means that if you want to get you or your society on air, want to get involved in any of our shows and projects or have a great idea for our next social, then I’m your gal! You may very well find me in the LSR office attempting to be productive, but in the rare circumstance that I’m not there then hop onto any internet-enabled device and drop me a tweet or an email.

James Hanson

Programme Controller

info:

Hello, I’m James and I’m Programme Controller here at Leeds Student Radio. Essentially, it’s my job to commission and schedule the station’s many and various shows – whilst also making shows they reach a consistently high standard of broadcasting. Sometimes it can mean playing the bad cop – rejecting a show proposal or enforcing Ofcom rules – but most of the time its a wonderful way to help our members create great student radio. Come and say hi in the office – look for the Tintin lookalike – or drop me a line on twitter or via email

Lissie Day

Head of Marketing

close

info:

Hi! As your new Head of Marketing, I’m going to make it my job to get as many students listening to LSR as possible. This could mean pestering companies around Leeds for competition give-aways. This could mean embracing the Theatre student in me, and dressing up in a sandwich board ready to hand out LSR flyers in the Union. This could mean finding a dedicated team of people to think of a hundred and one different ways to advertise YOUR brand new radio show. This could mean finding new and exciting ways of incorporating One Direction into the LSR adverts and jingles. This could mean me holding up a boom box on the Parkinson Steps, blasting LSR sound waves out to every single student in Leeds like a rather excitable, slightly high pitched, 21st Century John Cusack. Whatever my new role entails, I’m going to need a tonne of help. So, if you’re interested in Marketing, Advertising, Design, Radio Production, Script Writing, One Direction, or 1980s rom-coms then get in touch! I’d love to hear from you.

Robbie Russell

Head of Music

close

info:

Hi, I’m Robbie Russell; big baller, shot caller and one of the Heads of Music for this year. I’m in second year and study English and Philosophy, because as well as music, I also like books and that. Last year I got into LSR straight away, applying to present my own show, doing a weekly feature for the RPM Indie and Alternative show and becoming part of the Music Team, and I urge any new members to do the same. My musical taste is somewhat eclectic ranging from The Smiths and Radiohead, to Peace and Daft Punk to Craig David and Hall and Oates. I used to be in a band called Audioporn, (honestly, that was our name). My Co-Head Fred and I will be your first port of call for all your musical needs here at the station. I’m the tall one and Fred wears a hat, and if you still can’t find us, just follow the trail of poor puns and bad jokes. Chances are I’ll be loitering around the LSR office most of the time, so that’s always a good place to start. Amongst other things, we’re in charge of the station’s playlist with the help of our merry gang of thieves and outlaws known as the playlist team. We meet once a week to listen to the latest tracks and decide what’s good, whilst also handing out interview and gig review opportunities. Anyone is welcome, and anyone who is anyone will be there, so come on down, don’t be a stranger. Also, and most importantly, I like receiving sweets and gifts and compliments on my hair, so if you wanna make it in this game, they’re good places to start.

Harry Bainbridge

Head of Music

close

info:

Holla at yo girl, it’s yo boy H-Bain (bringing the pain). I’m a second year studying English Language and Literature but I kind of hate it so I’m distracting myself by being one of the Heads of Music. Basically I’m here to tell you that everything you like is terrible and then direct you to a Pitchfork/Vice article that explains in painstaking detail why I’m right and you are inevitably wrong. If that doesn’t put you off, then come along to one of our music meetings where we pick the playlist and hand out interviews, or come and chat to me in the office (I’m never not here) about gigs you want to go to and I’ll get you the goods (disclaimer: I probably won’t get you the goods). Lots of love, Harry xoxo

Helen Hoddinott

Head of Speech

close

info:

Hi there, I’m Helen, the other half of the dynamic speech duo with Dave. We are the people to come to with any speech show ideas. This may cover comedy, radio drama, theater, politics… AND MORE! Think stimulating discussion, dramatic debate, and tantalizing tales. We’re serious, we’re scintillating, we’re SPEECH.

Dave Tipping

Head of Speech

close

info:

Hello, as you can probably tell by the massive arrow pointing at my face I’m Dave and I’m one of the Heads of Speech programming here at Leeds Student Radio. That pretty much means that I’m in charge of our 6 flagship speech shows, it also means that I’m on-hand for anyone seeking advice on running their own talk show, panel show or even radio drama. Academically, I’m a fresher studying Maths. Realistically; I’m a 20 year old media mongrel with a caffeine problem. If I’m not at the station, then you’ll probably find me in the LSTV office or on twitter. Alternatively, drop me an e-mail and I’ll get back to you within 24 hours.

Holly Pywell

Head of Breakfast

close

info:

Wassaaap! I’m Holly/Pywell/Pyface, whatever you want! I also happen to be the Breakfast Producer for LSR. The Breakfast Shows are 2-hour slots 9-11am Monday thru Friday. These two hours should get students woken up and ready for the super fun day, which is to naturally lie ahead at Leeds Uni. Breakfast is fun-filled with quizzes, competitions, awesome music and features! It keeps students up to date with what’s going on in and around Uni and is super fun to be involved in! A great way to get involved in Breakfast is by creating a feature; a five-ten minute slot given to you to present. It could be anything from random facts, to cooking up a wacky breakfast live on air! If you want to get involved in any way (that’s presenting, producing, ‘featuring’! etc.) or even just for a friendly chat, then hit me up on Twitter, or drop me an email! I’m super quick at replying.

Head of News

info:

Hiya! My name is Emma, I’m a second year student and one of your heads of news this year. We all know the news can sometimes be a tad depressing but our news team always tries to look on the bright side of life! Our focus is, of course, on students and this is reflected in the stories we report on and the topics we choose to discuss in the second half of the weekly show- it’s the team’s show and so your opinions matter! You can get as involved as you want, its a great place to start if you haven’t tried radio before and want to make some pals along the way. We’re laaaaid back and eager to recruit more people to make some more memories! And also to deliver a professional and informative show.

Alex Ewing

Head of Sport

info:

Hello I’m Alex. As Head of Sport, I’m in charge of all things sport here on Leeds Student Radio! I have a genuine love for all sports and seem to know bizarre facts about them all. My main interest is, of course, football, specifically non-League football being a Cambridge United fan. I also run Out of the League, a non-League podcast and website. As well as football, I love cricket, rugby union, tennis, athletics whilst also developing an interest in both rugby league and golf! Please get in contact if you have any queries about any of our cracking sport shows, or if you want to take part in the production/presenting of our sport shows!

JB Bartlett

Head of Online

info:

Alriight, my names JB and I’m the head of online at LSR. You’ll either find me procrastinating in the office wearing animal print, or reciting vulgar rap lyrics from bygone years in the queue for a pasty. I’m basically the Social Media guy for the station, I’l be the one posting most of the updates on the website in addition to making sure that our Facebook, Twitter and soon-to-be Instagram accounts work well, in addition to making sure that our best content and interviews is up online for all of our listeners to hear. Drop me a tweet if you need to get in touch, I always like to look busy.

Jonny McGuigan

Head Of Engineering

close

info:

Hello! I’m Jonny – one of the friendliest and happiest men on earth – which is a very grand claim, but is fully true…I promise! Anyhow, I’m Head of Engineering here at LSR, which means its my job to co-ordinate, operate, maintain and generally make the technology in the station work – to keep us on air 24 hours a day. I’ve been involved in radio since I was 13 and I have enjoyed every minute of it, from presenting to engineering – I’ve broken and tried to fix it all.. Nowadays, I tend to live in the LSR office, either breaking things and fixing them, or vice versa…even occasionally fixing things for other people / planning for outside broadcasts and the like! If you’d like to hear more about me, need something fixed, would like to organise an Outside Broadcast or want to ask me something technically challenging… or just generally fancy a chat, drop me a message, via any of the above!

Sam Croasdale

Production Co-Ordinator

info:

After getting far too many strange looks, and people constantly asking me “Why are you always in the office Sam? Get another hobby!”, I decided to stop messing around and get myself a position on the committee. And so now I have a solid reason to eat my lunch in there, as I am this years Production Coordinator! When I’m not busy throwing my hands up in the air saying “ayo, gotta let go”, I’m the first point of call for anyone wanting to create their own pre-recorded material for their shows. If you want some music to talk over, a neat little jingle to describe a feature, or an advert to be played every hour detailing the merits of your own slice of Leeds Student Radio then you can send me an email, a Facebook message, a tweet or accost me in person. I pride myself on my approachability and my knowledge of the football clubs of South Northamptonshire, so feel free to grab me anytime.I’m also in charge of creating all station wide sound, so I want to hear any ideas for jingles you have, as frankly I need all the help I can get to make our station sound as amazing as we all know it can do.
